In this first post, we want to introduce the founder of Amazing Floral, Jennifer!
How did you get into flower arranement?
I've always loved flowers. I acutally learnt flower arrangement as a hobby back in 1989. I love how the mix of colours can just brighten up any room. Back then, I mostly gave my arrangements as gifts to friends and relatives during the festive season.
What made you turn your hobby into a business?
I realised how powerful flowers can be in uplifting the mood of the reipient. Hence, I wanted to do that at a professional level, to spread positive vibes all around. This led me to estabish myself as a professional florist in 2007. I attended many courses after that, including that of floral design, This enabled me to give a more distinctive and artistic touch to my creations.
What is the significance of giving flowers as gifts?
Giving flowers as gifts is not just about giving flowers. You are expressing and sharing your thoughts with your recipients, be it for their birthdays or wishing one a speedy recovery. You are saying you are thinking of them.
Seeing and smelling flowers can help to activate the oxytocin in us that triggers the happy feelings in ourselves. So the gift of flowers actually stands out from the rest of the usual presents. Giving flowers as gifts is also an expression of the soft power that both givers and recipients have.
What is one piece of advice you would give to people who aren't sure how to care for flowers?
You can change the water regularly, clean the vase, put floral food in the water and trim the stems as a fresh stem absorbs the water better. Of course, one must understand that flowers can't last that long in our weather, but the memory of the floral gift certainly will!
